SubRosa Artist Guidelines

Dear Artist:

Thank you for your interest in showing your art at SubRosa. Both individual and group shows are scheduled with artwork rotating on a monthly basis. The following Artist Guidelines apply to all exhibits and shows at SubRosa:

Commission: SubRosa will take a 20% commission on all sales to support the space. Payments are made to SubRosa directly by the buyer. SubRosa, in turn, will deduct 20% and pay the artist within 15 days of the close date of the show. Artists are recommended to price their work accordingly. If a piece is sold, it should remain at SubRosa until the end of the show.

Opening: Artists are expected to have an evening opening on the first Friday of the month to promote their show (5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.). Artist will provide invitations and announcements. SubRosa has a modest budget for refreshments, but we suggest the artist provide anything special at the opening. Artists who do lots of publicity and bring small pieces, cards, prints, posters and the like to the show sell very well.  Check out our Artist Tips for a Successful Art Opening.

Promotion: The artist should promote the show and the opening with flyers, postcards, and invitations to friends, patrons, supporters, and past buyers. If you get material to SubRosa early, we will promote the show. In addition, SubRosa will send an announcement to its list and post to the website.

Show Prep: Prepare a show description and an artist bio at least two weeks before the opening. Prepare to hang them for the show. Send them to us along with photos.

Hanging: The show’s hang date should be arranged in advance with SubRosa and should be done after closing hours or during non-peak operating times at least two days in advance of the opening. Show should come down the Monday before the next month’s first Friday show.

Responsibility: Although SubRosa is a relatively safe environment, all art is shown at the artists own risk. We cannot be liable for loss or damage to artwork. That said, we will do our best to make sure your art stays safe.

Artwork Check-In: We’d hate to be in a position where we felt the need to remove artwork from a show. So please contact us if you have any questions about the acceptability of any of your pieces.

If you know other artists that would like to participate, please have them contact us as well. We are honored to consider your work for a show.

Sincerely,
SubRosa Art Bottomliners

Hanging Guidelines

The artist is responsible for hanging the show. Since we have a dozen pictures that rotate monthly, we try not to put tons of holes in the walls. Therefore, the artwork should be hung from the hooks on the picture moulding. The artist is responsible for hanging hardware.

Here are the dimensions of the major spaces available for art on the walls.  There are plenty of nooks and cranies where art could be hung, so please feel free to bring a tape measure and check out the space fpr yourself.

All art should be mounted in sturdy frames with hangers mounted securely to the back (we suggest D-rings).  Artwork should be hung with suitably strong test monofilament, with heavier pieces hung with picture wire.

Again, the show’s hang date should be arranged in advance with SubRosa and should be done after closing hours or during non-peak operating times at least two days in advance of the opening. Show should come down the Monday before the next month’s first Friday show.
