First Friday: Group Embroidery Show - this group embroidery art show is at SubRosa and the Fábrica— group exhibition of local Santa Cruz stitchers, featuring the work of eight different artists who use needle and thread to create magical worlds. A weekend of trainings for members of the HUB and other Santa Cruz organizers addressing health, conflict, boundaries and burnout. See cover photo for schedule! "Herbal First Aid & Supporting Common Health Ailments"
This class will go over some common health concerns faced by houseless communities and protocol for administering care with symptom and red flag identification, as well as discussion of the importance of herbal support in the context of antibiotic resistance, disease prevention, and DIY healthcare. Topics covered will include proper wound dressing, diabetes, signs of infection, respiratory support, liver disease, stress, and sanitation.

"De-escalation Training"
An introduction to the techniques of verbal (2 hours) & physical (1 hour) de-escalation. Will pull from experience with protest trolls and non-violent communication. You will leave with a better sense of what work you need to do in order to become competent, this training is not a magic bullet. Plus, A brief introduction to physical self defense with an emphasis on posture and movement.

"Self-Care and Community Care" A workshop on using medicinal plants, embodiment practices and ritual to prevent burnout, support our long-term survival and nourish our political work. No herbal experience necessary. All participatory exercises are totally optional.
