-Friday, July 12th, 2pm: Free Film Screening: A Place Called Chiapas

From facebook post - https://www.facebook.com/events/2338483593076406/ "In solidarity with indigenous groups in Mexico, Subrosa is screening the 1998 documentary, A Place Called Chiapas. The film explores the lives of soldiers and citizens within the Zapatistas' rebellion in Chiapas, Mexico's southernmost state.

This screening is part of a series of actions taking place July 12-14, in response to a call made by Mexico's National Indigenous Congress [CNI], the Indigenous Governing Council [CIG], and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation [EZLN]

These actions are intended to serve as a strong show of solidarity with the indigenous communities of the Emiliano Zapata Popular Indigenous Council of Guerrero [CIPOG-EZ] who have been attacked and surrounded by narco-paramilitary groups in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Four members of CIPOG-EZ have been killed since May 2019.

The urgent call by the CNI-CIG-EZLN also requests both supplies (from people in Mexico) and funds (from those in Mexico or around the world) that will be delivered directly to these communities via a caravan on the same dates as the days of action."

-Saturday, July 13th, noon-3pm: Really Really Free Market in Solidarity with Campana por la Vida
This market is based on a gift-economy and thinks capitalism is horrible. Bring food to share. Bring your special items that you don't use but can't throw away (ex. clothes, toys, art supplies, instruments, books and zines...your free box). Bring your special talents to offer people (ex. haircuts, message, reiki...). Come and take what you can use and say thanks! We will have folks to check in with as you arrive.

Note: This RRFM is in solidarity with La Campana por la Vida, La Paz, y la Justicia en las Montanas de Guererro. Indigenous groups in Mexico are calling us to bring attention to the duplicitous AMLO government that is endangering indigenous lands and livelihood in Southern Mexico.

There will be literature and donations to the coalition of groups fighting this which includes the Zapatistas and National Indigenous Congress.

Donation based, nobody turned away for lack of funds -- We only suggest a sliding scale cover to compensate artists and performers for their labor (which we believe in) and to pay our monthly rent. We are a volunteer-run anti-capitalist space ran by a majority of queer-intersectional feminists. But we know damn well how to party and get down on a sunny summer's Sunday afternoon, so come down and support your local hip hop, it's 2019 baby time to show up for PoC spaces and femme rappers! 🎤🎛🎧

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
