Film screening & Free Skool celebration & Really Really Free Market & many shows & more!

So much happening at SubRosa in days ahead!

-Friday September 30th, 7pm - Join Rojava Solidarity Santa Cruz in a screening of "Jiyan's Story" on Friday, September 30th from 7-9pm at SubRosa. https://instagram.com/rojavasc

Set in the autonomous region of Rojava, the film follows the life of  Jiyan Tolhildan, a female guerilla fighter who devoted 20 years of her life to the Kurdish freedom struggle and the liberation of Kurdish women. On July 22, 2022 Jiyan was martyred after being assassinated by a Turkish drone as she left a forum that celebrated 10 years of the women's revolution in Rojava.

Learn more about the Kurdish struggle and the Kurdish Women's Movement by participating in a discussion afterwards that draws from both the film as well as recent updates in the region. We will also be discussing further action we can take as we stand in solidarity with Rojava and the Kurdish people.

-Saturday October 1st, 5pm - 🚨🍂🌽 Join us to celebrate the end of this summer's Free Skool Santa Cruz with a Fall Harvest Potluck this Saturday, Oct. 1, 5-7 p.m., SubRosa Courtyard. 🚨🍂🌽

How's this a harvest potluck? First, you're invited to prepare a dish that includes at least one item you or someone you know personally harvested! No pressure though - please come even if you haven't prepared a dish.

This is a chance to harvest some of the connections we've made with each other through roughly 50 different classes in the past three-plus months. Teachers and students are invited to share about their experience in their class(es). We'll also have a little conversation about what comes next for Free Skool👀👀 Feel free to bring a plus-one or plus-two. Hope to see you there! 🥳🎉

SubRosa is a collectively run anarchist community space, a place to meet others and challenge our assumptions and act on our passions. We strive to create a vibrant environment for events, classes, meetings, organizing, performance, art, studying and more. SubRosa also offers radical literature for sale, and houses the Anarchist Lending Library. We welcome folks to join us in fostering an environment free from coercion, sexism, queer&homophobia, racism, ableism and other hierarchies.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.

Do you want to join SubRosa in solidarity with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band?

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
