Work on your creative projects (draw, paint, sculpt, write, knit, collage, doodle, and so on) in a quiet environment with other people who are doing the same. Creative work is an essential part of life, and having a set place and time to engage in these activities in the company of like-minded people can foster accountability in developing consistent creative practices. The studio staffer will keep some basic tools and materials on hand for shared use. Use of tools and materials is free, but we do recommend a $1-$5 per hour donation for use of the space, to help cover rent and keep SubRosa open in the long term. No one turned away for lack of funds. Space also open for other uses as well, but Studio Hours are prioritized.

Free figure drawing session! Every week, we gather to spend a few hours drawing bodies. Bring your drawing supplies if you have them, and the host will make sure there are a few extras for folks in need. We take turns modeling: no one is required to model, but everyone is encouraged. Some of the most vibrant sessions occur when there are a wide range of body types to draw. We've done everything from fully nude to fully clothed, depending on what everyone feels comfortable with. The front gate will be unlocked: just push it open, close it behind you, and join us inside!

HUFF is Santa Cruz's oldest and most stubbornly persistent grass roots homeless advocacy group.

A showing of the documentary The Color of Fear by Lee Mun Wah. The Color of Fear is a 90 minute film exploring racism and perceptions of racism from the perspective of 8 individuals from different ethnic/cultural/folk racial backgrounds. Following the film we'll have our own discussion and debriefing.
-3rd Thursday, Women, Trans, and Queer Open Mic
Every 3rd Thursday of the month we reserve the stage for Women, Trans, and Queer folk though everyone is invited and encouraged to come enjoy the show. These Open Mics are always special. Donations directly benefit this community-supported space.
Signups for performance at 7:30 fill up quickly, and it begins at 8pm. Bring your creativity and artistic inspiration. $3-7 at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds. (and a reminder that Studio Hours take place that Thursday noon-6pm).

This market is based on a gift-economy and thinks capitalism sucks. Bring food to share. Bring your special items that you don't use but can't throw away (ex. clothes, toys, art supplies, instruments, books and zines...your free box). Bring your special talents to offer people (ex. haircuts, message, reiki...). Come and take what you can use and say thanks! We will have folks to check in with as you arrive. First come first served, space may be limited. If you bring things, you are expected to take away whatever is left at the end of the market.

We’ll tell you a little about what the TRUCE collective is doing and why, and talk about the importance and relevance of developing an awareness of conflict culture in the context of movements and campaigns. Then we'll facilitate a sharing circle where we explore 3 questions from the Restorative Circle system building process; What do we do when conflict becomes painful that works well? What do we do that doesn’t work quite so well? How do we dream it could be? Learn how to take care of one another! This class will cover basic assessment and treatment of common injuries and illnesses that may arise at actions. Upper Campus FOREST WALKS schedule: Fall 2014
Fall in Santa Cruz is the season of renewal. Parched trees shed their needles, cones, nuts & crispy leaves; long-awaited showers bring the sleeping splendor of the forest to life. Let’s explore together in this awakening forest that is threatened by UCSC expansion.
Walks are free and hosted by volunteers, with no university sponsorship. Unless otherwise stated, rain does not cancel!
