Making art is making change. 💥 Join me on my birthday next Sunday December 16th, 12-2:30pm at SubRosa for a COLLAGE MASTER CLASS! w/ Yours Truly: Whitney Sparks Artwork! // We'll be creating postcards to send to political prisoner Cyntoia Brown and more. 🌹 The PRISON LETTER WRITING project is generously sharing space with us at SubRosa Community Space so it would be radical — and possible— to send our art behind bars.  // 💎 Pay what you can.  // ✂️ Bring material (magazines, books, paper, photos, scissors etc.) from home, if you like. Material and equipment will be provided!

Each week we will highlight a specific prisoner, have info on their story and struggle, and have a list of political prisoners to write. Use this time to find a new prisoner penpal, to continue a correspondence or write to someone you know inside. We have materials and stamps but please bring paper, pens and stamps if you like. Some snacks provided.

-Tuesday, December 18th, 6:30pm (happening at the Hub, including Sanctuary Santa Cruz space and SubRosa):  Las Posadas 2018

As the number of refugees increases every day, the tradition of Las Posadas reminds us of the many families around the globe asking for a place to survive and raise their children.

The nightly processions of Las Posadas are a re-enactment of Mary and Joseph's search for a lodging (posada) in Bethlehem. Each night, we will gather for a candlelight procession to the "posada" - the venue for that night's celebration. The next night's procession begins at the previous night's location until the we reach the final night's venue.

(This Posada will start at Calvary Episcopal Church at 6:30 and walk from Cedar to Laurel to Pacific Ave) Performance by Banda de Salvadoreños // Refreshments provided by Sanctuary Santa Cruz // full schedule at

(Come on by and have some coffee, check-out a book or strike up a conversation)
Wednesdays, 10:30am - 2pm // Fridays, 9am - 12pm //
& open for events & meetings
(and open on some Thursday afternoons)

Also happening at the town clock!  Friday, December 14th, 5 - 6:30pm:  Solidarity Walk for Caravan Asylum Seekers

We have a duty to stand up and speak out to demand justice and safety for asylum seekers. Will you join us? // Tenemos el deber de levantarnos y exigir justicia y seguridad para los solicitantes de asilo. ¿Te unes a nosotros? //

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
