Creative use of found materials and design techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Only material availability and motivation will limit us in this class. With Chris.**
Radical Film Night- 7:30pm- Lucio (This month's theme is Crime Pays!) Lucio is a 2007 documentary. There have been–and are–many anarchists. Quite a few of them have had to commit robberies or manufacture contraband for the cause. A much smaller number have talked strategy with Che or helped Eldridge Cleaver (the leader of the Black Panthers). But there is only one who, in addition to all of the above, put the world’s most powerful bank on the ropes by producing massive amounts of counterfeit Traveler’s Cheques while also not missing a single day at his bricklayer’s job. His name is Lucio Urtubia.
Lucio presently lives in retirement in Paris. During his life, he witnessed–and often participated actively in–some of the most important events of the second half of the 20th century. He experienced the tumult of May ’68 from within, actively supported the Castro regime during its initial stages, and engaged in a whole range of anti-Franco endeavors. However, his biggest “job” took place in the latter part of the 1970s, a time when he was known in the press as “the good bandit” or “the Basque Zorro.” He defrauded the First National Bank (now Citibank) of 3,000 million pesetas in order to finance causes that he supported. Amazingly, his “career” only cost him a few months in prison.

**Community Safety Workgroup- a Free Skool class"Without police, wouldn't there be chaos?" "What about the bad people?" As anarchists we get asked these legit questions all the time. Don't be fooled by the bland title, this is a project that has the potential to change the world. This is a structured workshop to plan ways to keep our communities safe at all levels. Here are the challenges we'll tackle: new accountability process, community crisis response, cops and alternatives, education, mutual support, solidarity, defense of communities,and making the police obsolete. With this class we jumpstart an ongoing Community Safety Workgroup that will grow beyond free skool. Requirements: Basic familiarity and comfort with the philosophy of anarchism will serve you well here. Be down with basic premises: We want to work collaboratively. We are committed. We are here to act. What we are wanting is possible and desirable. With Wes.

-Friday April 1st- First Friday Art Opening: Selected Works by Annelise,
artist's reception 6-10pm
Annelise draws and paints pictures, makes prints and takes photographs too (see graphic upper right). Her work features lots of ladies and woodland creatures. Artist reception will include art exhibition, appetizers, wine and live musical performances.
-Saturday April 2nd: “Popular Resistance in Palestine: A history of Hope & Empowerment” with Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh at 2:30pm

Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh (pictured above when arrested by Israeli soldiers at Al Walaja in May 2010) teaches and does research at Bethlehem & Birzeit Universities in Israeli occupied Palestine. He previously served on the faculties of the University of Tennessee, Duke and Yale Universities. Qumsiyeh is president of the Palestinian Center for Rapprochement Between People and coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements in Beit Sahour. His most acclaimed book is “Sharing the Land of Canaan: human rights and the Israeli/Palestinian Struggle.” He published an activism handbook on his web site qumsiyeh.org. Qumsiyeh’s main interest is media activism and public education, having been published in and interviewed in print and on TV and radio extensively (local, national and international) including the Washington Post, New York Times, Boston Globe, CNBC, C-Span, and ABC. He also regularly lectures on issues of human rights and international law. His new book “Popular Resistance in Palestine” reviews Palestinian nonviolent civilian resistance to displacement and occupation dating back to the beginning of the 19th century until today.
